Laser cutting cork sheets

Nick van de Giesen
I made some simple shapes in cork. The laser-cutter cut through flat cork of 6.2mm.
The shapes were basically rings with an outer diameter of 39 mm and an inner diameter of 16mm.
After a few iterations, the best setting seems to be 50% max power and a speed of 33mm/s.

I use the rings for simple acoustic rain gauges for a citizen science project. Then, the cork rings serve as acoustic insulation between the little gauge and the area it will be mounted on.
By the way, you can buy the cork at the corner of Breestraat, the floor cover shop.
